"This is our hope.  With this faith we will be able to hew out of a mountain of despair a stone of hope.  With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood"

Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Memorial

International Competition

This proposal advances turning a stone from an instrument of violence into a vehicle for peace.  All vistitors contribute stones, to build, over time, an ever growing monument of participatory democracy.  The act of visiting the monument actually begins the moment a stone is selected, then retrived and placed in safe keeping, until the final ritual of placement.

A hand.  A stone.

The proposal is participatory, social, tactile, and positive.

It is an idea that lives; lives to inspire, teach, and motivate.
